DAISY DORMER was a dainty Comedienne, Singer and acrobatic Dancer.
She was born KEZIA BEATRICE STOCKWELL on 16th January 1883 in Southsea, to parents Henry John and Mary Stockwell.
Daisy appeared at all the leading Music Halls and became a star of Pantomime too. It is recorded that she played a lovable Goody in Richard Waldon's pantomime Goody Two Shoes at The Royal Princess's Theatre, Glasgow in 1902 and twelve months later she started a tour in Moss and Thornton's successful Robinson Crusoe at The Shakespeare Theatre, Liverpool, playing the part of Hal Loo, with Bert Gilbert and Brown Newland and Le Clerq. At the Royal, Bradford in 1910 she played principal girl Ruby in Sinbad the Sailor alongside Jack Pleasants and W. H. Powell.
Her early stage name "Dainty Daisy Dormer" became a household word and in her short and brilliant career she charmed the hearts of theatre goers the world over.
In 1908 she married one half of the Egbert Brothers, Albert Jee and later on in life, they ran The Sun Hotel in Godalming.
Daisy Dormer passed away on 13th September 1947 aged 64 and was cremated at Streatham Park Cemetery.
Daisy Dormer had a huge repertoire of songs, but her two most popular songs were I WOULDN'T LEAVE MY LITTLE WOODEN HUT FOR YOU and POPSY WOPSY.
Here are a list of the songs that Daisy Dormer sang:
AIN'T IT NICE?
ANYWHERE WILL DO
BEAUTIFUL BABY DOLL
CAN'T YOU TAKE THE BABY OVER THERE WITH YOU?
DON'T GO BACK TO CAROLINE
DOWN BY THE FERRY
DON'T CALL ON FRIDAY
EVERYBODY LOVES THEIR LIL' OLD HOME
GEE, THE RAGTIME STEP
GOODNIGHT MR BROWN, I'M OUT
HEY HO, CAN'T YOU HEAR THE STEAMER
I WISH I LIVED NEXT DOOR TO YOU
I LIKE YOUR OLD FRENCH BONNET
I DO LIKE YOU SUSIE
I'M GOING, I'M GOING, I'M GONE!
I'VE BEEN DREAMING
I WANT A GIRL
JUST TRY TO PICTURE ME BACK HOME IN TENNESSEE
KISS ME GOODBYE
LITTLE LANCASHIRE ROSE
MAC, MAC, MAC AFE YOU COMING BACK, BACK, BACK?
MAKE YOUR MIND UP MAGGIE MACKENZIE
MY BOY'S A SAILORMAN
MY MAN'S A BAD MAN
ON THE WAY TO HOME SWEET HOME
RAGTIME COWBOY JOE
ROSES ROUND THE DOOR
SAME GIRL ON SUNDAY
TAFFY'S GOT HIS JENNIE IN GLAMORGAN
TAKE YOUR GREEDY EYES OFF MY LITTLE GIRL
THERE'S A LITTLE LANE WITHOUT A TURNING
THE GIRL IN THE CLOGS AND SHAWL
TIRED OF ME
UNDERNEATH THE JAPANESE MOON
WAITING FOR A GIRL
THE WEDDING BELLS WONT RING FOR YOU AND ME
WHAT YOU'VE GOT, LOOK AFTER
WHEN I LIVE OPPOSITE TO YOU
WHEN THE ROSES BID SUMMER GOODBYE
WHEN WILL THE SUN SHINE FOR ME?
WHEN YOU'RE GOING BACK TO DIXIELAND
WHEREVER THE GIRLS ARE, YOU'LL FIND A JACK TAR
WHERE'VE YOU'VE BEEN WHILE THE SUN'S BEEN SHINING?
WHY DON'T YOU GO TO LANCASHIRE?
YOU SHAN'T COME IN MY PRETTY CAGE
YOU WERE THE FIRST ONE
THERE'S A GREAT BIG PUFF PUFF STEAMING ALONG TO ME.
