PEGGY O NEIL






Peggy O'Neil was born Mary Margaret O'Neil on 16th June 1894 in Buffalo, NY.

 

She made her first appearance in Chicago as a child dancer under the name of Dainty Peggy O'Neil.

 

After several performances on Broadway, she came to London in 1920 as the heroine of "Paddy The Next Best Thing" at the Savoy Theatre, which ran for over 800 performances.  

 

She appeared in "Peg O' My Heart", "Mercenary Mary", and other West End successes and was the original Peggy O'Neil of the song "Sweet Peggy O' Neil".

 

During the second world war she travelled all over the world entertaining the Forces.

 

Peggy O'Neil passed away on 7th January 1960 aged 61.
